President Goodluck Jonathan has declared that: “we must
conduct elections as scheduled by INEC”.
Hey He said this at
the commissioning of 4 new ships in the fleet of the
Nigerian Navy;NNS CENTENARY, NNS OKPABANA, NNS
PROSPERITY and NNS SAGBAMA.
Expressing confidence in the armed forces to “route” Boko
Haram, the president commended the military for their
recent successes against insurgents and reduction in theft
of crude oil whilst condemning increased vandalism of gas
pipelines that have affected electricity generation and
supply.
This declaration by President Jonathan on holding the
elections as scheduled by the Independent National
Electoral Commission comes a day after its Chairman,
Professor Attahiru Jega declared in the Senate that he
could not guarantee that elections would hold on March 28
due to factors beyond his control.
This had created apprehension about the electoral process
and what might happen if elections don’t hold as
scheduled.
