THE South African Music Awards set the music scene ablaze last
night.
With newcomers Beaten berg cleaning up, it was a night to
remember.
The trio from Cape Town, who rose to the scene with a
collaboration with DJ Clock, proved they are here to stay when
they bagged a bunch of awards, including Album of the Year, Duo
or Group of the Year and Best Pop Album.
Skhanda rap king K.O walked away with two awards after shining
at previous awards but never winning.
His smash hit CaraCara, featuring KidX, won Best Collaboration and
his debut album, Skhanda Republic got Best Rap.
AfroPop singer Bucie won her first award, taking home Best Female
Artist for her fourth album Princess of House (Easy To Love).
She said she didn’t expect to win.
Hot music duo Black Motion walked off with their first award, Best
Dance, for their third album, Fortune Teller featuring the hit song
Rainbow.
They also brought the house down with their performance.
Professor won Best Kwaito Album and other winners included AKA
and Cassper Nyovest, Maleh and DJ Sbu.
Among the highlights were an on-stage collaboration between AKA,
Duncan and Mdu Masilela, another cross-genre featuring Simphiwe
Dana and Kurt Darren and a rock-meets-rap mash-up featuring
Prime Circle and Cassper Nyovest.
Host HHP held it down and kept the audience entertained until the
very last second.
